The hotel experience is, by nature, a refuge from the storm (of a chaotic business day, hours of travel, miles of sightseeing). A clean room, a comfortable bed, a good shower, endless Wi-Fi— these are the bones of refuge.

Bottom line: Many important urban centers in the U.S. have little build-able, open space. What many of them do have to offer, though, is a nice supply of underperforming buildings, which could be a golden opportunity for hotel owners and developers looking to bring their brand to (or expand it in) those sought-after cities.

It used to be that airport hotels had one major thing going for them: convenience. Located within eyeshot of the terminal, they were reliably OK, offering little to do and nothing worth remembering. They were odd ducks of the four-star set.
