Gensler's 2013 Workplace Survey: Balance in Any Environment

In our recently released 2013 Workplace Survey (WPS), we found that workplace effectiveness has dropped since 2008. As we release these findings, we’ve noticed that many people hear that and make an immediate and intuitive leap—they assume we mean open plan offices don’t work. This couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, our research shows that effective work can happen in both open and closed environments when designed and managed correctly. Unfortunately, in the aggregate, our workplace data shows that doesn’t appear to be happening for many companies.

Gensler has completed the new 2013 U.S. Workplace Survey, profiled recently in the media. As the most recent iteration of an ongoing investment in workplace research, the study examines the design factors that create an effective workplace; how design can better support knowledge worker engagement, satisfaction, and performance; and the influence of the workplace on organizational culture.
